Portal 2: Light Bridge - Level Design

Design Goals

1. Explore Lightbridge Mechanics:
    - Focus the entire level around the Lightbridge mechanic to provide a cohesive gameplay experience.
    - Allow players to progressively discover and master the various uses of the Lightbridge.

2. Progressive Challenge Design:
    - Introduce puzzles in a logical sequence, gradually increasing complexity to build understanding and engagement.
    - Encourage creative problem-solving through both object manipulation and player interaction with Lightbridge physics.


Design Process

1. Concept and Theme Development:

- Established the Lightbridge as the central mechanic and designed all puzzles to revolve around its versatility.
2. Puzzle Design Approach

- Puzzle 1: Introduce the Lightbridge and demonstrate its basic interaction with portals. This ensures players understand the core mechanic.
- Puzzle 2&3: Introduce object manipulation using the Lightbridge’s physics, encouraging experimentation and reinforcing learned mechanics.
Puzzle 4: Challenge players to manipulate their own movement using the Lightbridge’s physics.
3. Iterative Testing:
    - Conducted playtests to ensure each puzzle was intuitive and built upon previously introduced concepts.

    - Adjusted layout and mechanics to balance difficulty and maintain a smooth progression.
